Is The Ipod Video Worth The Purchase?
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios
Defined Tag: Ipod Video.
The latest, and some say the best, incarnation of the iPod for 2006 is the iPod Video. Judging from its name alone, you'd know what this gadget is all about. It is packed with all the features that came with the previous iterations of the iPod, and a new function that would allow you to play mpeg4 files you could store in its humongous 30GB internal memory.
Released To A Shocked World
Made available in the market just in time for Christmas, 2005, the iPod Video shocked the whole world. We weren't expecting such a powerful, revolutionary device from Apple, especially since the iPod Nano is just in the middle of its market life. Nonetheless, however shocked the world may be, everyone quickly embraced Apple's newest version of its flagship line.
Apple calls it the "evolution of a revolution," a salute to how revolutionary the original iPod was when it was first released, and how much it has evolved up to this point. Indeed, with its newest model, people don't have to settle for mere tunes to listen to and photos to display on their screens, they could now enjoy full fledged videos. 30GB can host up to 60 movies, and 30 DVD-encoded offerings, which you could watch wherever you may be.
It's Still An Ipod
Lost in hoopla over the newest iPod model is the fact that the iPod Video is still an iPod. It still retains all the functions that the original release possessed. It's still the iPod that everyone fell in love with. It's still the iPod that reinvented the word "cool."
The newest model, in fact, shares the same body as the original iPod, albeit with a screen that is capable of very high resolution. This makes the enjoyment of videos and actual movies possible. Though the screen may be small for some people, there is no denying the crystal clear quality it is capable of.
Is This The Face Of The Future?
Let me say this: the iPod Video is an amazing offering for the present period. With the deluge of portable mp3 players in the market, all of which trace their inspiration to the original iPod, the newest version is a distinctively different and a welcome deviation from the standard model.
But the future holds better things for Apple's flagship product.
As early as now, plans have been revealed for a widescreen iPod capable of delivering DVD-quality videos in the same format. For video lovers, this would seem like a better option.
If you could exercise more patience and wait for the widescreen version, that would be a good choice. But this suggestion shouldn't be taken to mean that the current model is a transitory product. The fact is, it could hold its own against the current alternatives in the market, and it is a great product by itself.
